November of each year, SAIC Campus Life and Student Association host the annual Holiday Art Sale. This highly anticipated two-day event gives currently enrolled students with a minimum of 12 credit hours the opportunity to showcase and sell their original creations to the public. Gifts for sale include photographs, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, prints and drawings, jewelry, fashion accessories and handmade paper designs.
Initial Sketches/ Researches: Two Weeks
Layout Design/ Color Choices: One Week
Finals/ Deliverables: One Week
The core concept is inspired by the moment of opening the gift. The excitement of receiving the gift is expressed through the action of tearing open the wrapping paper. Playing with the tattered gift wrapping paper, I deliberately create a scene of revealing the message just as if revealing the content of the gift. The colorful ribbon creates a visual cue to expressionist painting which relates to the idea of celebration of the years of art sale and ties the identity systems together.
